Nancy Reuben Primary School

NRPS Allergies, Snacks and Food Policy

Anaphylaxis, or anaphylactic shock, is a sudden, severe and potentially life-threatening allergic reaction to food, stings, bites, or medicines. Schools have a duty of care to all pupils and have procedures in place to minimise the risk of an allergic reaction occurring. We do have pupils at NRPS who fall into this category and so we kindly ask that everyone ensures that this policy is rigorously adhered to at all times with no exceptions. We hope the following guidelines are helpful.

We would like to remind everyone that our school is a nut free zone. This means that no nuts and nut products are allowed in school classrooms, playgrounds or in packed lunches at any time.

This includes Shabbat parties and birthday parties or food brought into school from kosher bakeries.

Our “Nut-Free Policy” means that the following items should not be brought into school:

• Packs of nuts

• Peanut butter sandwiches

• Fruit and cereal bars that contain nuts

• Chocolate bars or sweets that contain nuts

• Sesame seed rolls (children allergic to nuts may also have a severe reaction to sesame)

• Hummus  / Tehina

• Cakes made with nuts

•  Sushi  which may have sesame

•  Challah rolls with sesame

•  Pretzels with sesame

Packed lunches

• All packed lunches must be sesame free

• Water is preferable as this keeps children well hydrated.

• No cans or sugary drinks are allowed at school at any time

Breaktime snacks

• Any fresh or dried fruit

• Vegetables

• Plain rice cakes or plain crackers No bissili, crisps, sweets or chocolates in school at any time.
